California Wildfire Aid
I created this site as an evacuee of the Thomas Fire in Carpinteria, California, during 2017.
I have always admired my favorite uncle, a Santa Clara County firefighter. I experienced fire in different ways than just trips to the fire station; I had developed a deeper understanding of the dangers involved and the potential for loss of life. During the Thomas Fire evacuation, much of Uncle Spencer’s day-to-day experiences became very real for me.
I also learned many people wanted to help, but did not necessarily know how. Fire departments, already stretched thin fighting fires, were inundated with well-intentioned donations they did not have the infrastructure to manage. I created this site to help direct people towards paths of aid that are organized, useful, and trusted in times of disaster.
